Finishing Last Daily Comic Strip 3/19/10
I was just reading the Blog of Michael Fry, who along with T. Lewis creates the comic strip Over the Hedge. He was talking about how the newspaper comic page was dying a slow death along with newspapers themselves.
I should have done all the current professional comic artists the favor of warning them that I was looking to start working within their field. Why should I have warned them, you might ask. The answer is simple. I am the fat lady who sings. Once I decide to turn my attention to something it invariably becomes out of fashion or unprofitable or in poor taste or downright illegal, sometimes all of the above.
There are others out there like me, who have the inate ability to turn to brass whatever they touch. The reverse Midas Effect. How do I know there are others? Because I take no responsibility for the death of Betamax, the Tech Bubble, or Capri Pants. I never participated in those and can't be blamed for their sudden crash and burn.
The only brightside for Mr. Fry and the rest of the professional comic creators in the world is that once I have turned my attentions to a new endeavor, my powers wear off and most of the time the interest sees a resurgence. See the 1998-to present Los Angeles Lakers.
